action

Harry is currently out of employment when he meets an American millionaire and his daughter Dorothy. When the latter is in distress from the American's chauffeur, Harry courageously intervenes and saves the US girl. The chauffeur is actually a dangerous thief. Because he landed a big coup and stole the crown of a worn-out prince in exile.

Harry soon falls into the clutches of the gang of thieves and has to fight for his life with the rough crooks. Dorothy also falls into their clutches and tries to fight off villainous burglars with a revolver. In the end, Harry can turn off the gang, give the ex-prince his crown back and, by the way, marry the millionaire's daughter. Finally it turns out that Harry's mother Marianne is the American's childhood sweetheart. And so four hearts are brought together.

Production notes

On dangerous tracks was created in spring 1924 in alpine winter sports areas and in the Efa studio at the zoo. The film passed the censorship on May 22, 1924 and was premiered on June 10, 1924 in the Alhambra on Kurfürstendamm. The strip was seven acts long and had a length of 2,816 meters. In 1928 a youth ban was pronounced because, according to the Berlin Film Inspectorate, some action and duel scenes could act as "demoralizing and brutalizing the youngsters". Piel then made massive cuts to the film.

The film structures were designed by Kurt Richter . Edmund Heuberger had the manager at this from the Emelka distributed film.

For Esther Carena , who married the film architect Franz Schroedter that same year , and the silent film veteran Paul Meffert , On dangerous tracks meant the last appearance in front of the film camera.

criticism

In 1935, Oskar Kalbus ' Vom Werden German Filmkunst' described the principle of Pielscher films as follows: “Even in the sensational films of the war, Harry Piel was the“ man without nerves ”. He has always remained the same, who carries out his sensations with his peculiar mastery of elegance and bravura. It is part of his personal bad luck in all of his films that criminals always pursue him, or else he is the liberator of persecuted innocence. Women especially like that. That is why Harry Piel was one of the most popular actors on the German screen in the silent film era. "

Paimann's film lists summed up: "In the foreground are the good artistic achievements of Harry Piel, beautiful winter sports pictures and the generous presentation in the last act. The representation is good, the subject within the boundaries drawn by the peculiarity of this genre, very interesting and exciting"
