Gotthardt Wolf
Gotthardt Wolf (born June 22, 1887 in Eppendorf , † January 20, 1947 in Potsdam ) was a German cameraman .
Life
After training as a photographer, he specialized in reproduction and portrait photography. In 1910 he began to work as a simple cameraman for cinematography, which was still in its infancy, and in its early phase worked as chief cameraman for the comedy director Franz Hofer , especially in the last two years before the outbreak of the First World War . From 1916 to 1918 Wolf did military service in Finland as a cameraman for the Imperial Image and Film Office .
Ultimately, his collaboration with actor-director Harry Piel was of decisive importance . Under Piel's leadership, Wolf developed into an expert in camera trick shots and special effects.
With the dawn of the sound film age, Wolf von Piel separated and mainly worked for industrial film . During this time he worked intensively with color photography. He stayed temporarily in London for study purposes . In 1937 he became a color film cameraman at Siemens for industrial and advertising films in Berlin .
