Live and act
Lantz worked as a theater director before the First World War . The actors Friedrich Kayßler and Paul Otto performed at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Berlin, which he directed between 1910 and 1914 . His production of Goethe's Egmont was a great success. In later years, Adolf Lantz also directed the Royal Kroll Opera Theater and the Theater am Zoo (both also in Berlin). He was also involved in directing the cabaret 'Die Rakete'. The theater artists he supports include Alfred Abel , Helene Fehdmer and Reinhold Schünzel .
At the beginning of the First World War he began to work for the silent film pioneer Max Mack and wrote an adaptation of Hermann Sudermann's Der Katzensteg for him . In the 1920s, Lantz was a busy screenwriter who could handle both cheerful and serious subjects.
After the National Socialists came to power, Lantz went to Austria, where he was able to sell his last screenplay with Sonnenstrahl in 1933. After the annexation of Austria he emigrated to Paris , where he did the editing for Kurt Bernhardt's Carrefour in 1938 . Eventually he went to the UK. There he worked primarily as a translator for English authors (Philipp Gibbs, Victor Canning ). From October 1948 to April 1949 he stayed in the United States to visit his son Robert Lantz (1914-2007), a journalist, occasional producer, and acting and literary agent. Then Adolf Lantz returned to London. There he died four months later.
