Schubert's Frühlingstraum is a German music and film romance by Richard Oswald with the singer Carl Jöken in the lead role as the composer Franz Schubert .

action

An episode from the life of the Austrian composer Franz Schubert is described.

Some guests sit together in the popular Viennese tavern “Höldrichsmühle” and ask the landlady Therese to sing a song. The young Franz Schubert, who has just started a trial as a schoolmaster at the community school, is asked to accompany Therese on the piano, as the actual pianist was thrown out by the jealous cooper of the tavern, Sepp. Schubert has already accompanied Therese on the piano several times and this time once again arouses applause from the guests, which he does not notice because the shy, young man has already left the venue. In front of the pub, Schubert just sees Comtesse Esterhazy getting out of a carriage. With them: her father, the old count, and Herr von Fekete, whom the Comtesse is to marry soon at the request of the old gentleman. Franz Schubert is downright delighted by the outward appearance of Maria Esterhazy and can no longer avert his eyes. Countess Esterhazy greets Schubert in a particularly courteous manner because she cannot stand the husband-to-be chosen for her. Schubert gets this upside down and now believes the young, beautiful noblewoman is showing an interest in him.

But Maria's courtesy and courtesy applies only to the artist Schubert, whom she admires as a brilliant musician. Therese quickly realizes that Schubert is in love with something and asks Maria to leave the "Höldrichsmühle" as soon as possible. Schubert cannot understand Maria's hasty departure and is very sad about it. To make matters worse, the talented young composer also loses his job as a community school teacher, whereupon Schubert has to sell his best compositions below value in order to be able to live on something. Therese, who secretly raves about Schubert, turns out to be a saving angel one more time and secretly gets Franz an engagement for a concert in the Palais of Count Esterhazy. Schubert himself mistakenly believes that only Maria could be behind this invitation. At the climax of the concert, Maria sings a love song dedicated to her by Schubert. Schubert then makes her a marriage proposal and is all the more dismayed when his aristocratic lady of the heart refuses this with friendly, gentle words.

criticism

Paimann's film lists summed up: “A small subject is heavily interspersed with swan motifs, powdered with dialogue jokes, jokes in the representation and singing of Schubert from the Dreimäderlhaus. (...) The direction has coarsened a lot. "
