Gretl Theimer (born November 27, 1910 in Vienna , † May 14, 1972 in Munich ) was an Austrian actress and singer .

Life

After training in ballet, Gretl Theimer danced in the children's ballet of the Vienna State Opera . She first made a name for herself as an operetta singer on Austrian and German stages.

The music film Two Hearts in Three-Four Time , one of the first sound films, made Gretl Theimer a well-known film star. The waltz of the same name after Robert Stolz , which she sang together with the actor Walter Janssen , was also one of the most successful hits of 1930. After that, Gretl Theimer was seen as a dashing and coveted Maderl very often in Viennese films and other entertainment films of the 1930s .

After about a decade, her film career seemed to be over. Only in the fifties and sixties did she take on a few mostly very small film roles again.

Her grave is in the Munich forest cemetery .
