action

Somewhere in a “sinful” city of the 1920s: the scholar Dr. Gonzales marries a young woman with a bad reputation who is considered dissolute. When Gonzales sees through her dubious character, he turns away from his depraved wife and looks elsewhere. Again he comes across a young woman who, however, also comes from a socially questionable, in other words: “semi-silky” environment. Her mother, a pension landlady, is considered depraved and deeply immoral, the two sisters are ill-bred and lustful. But the new one in Gonzales' life turns out to be decent, despite her origins, but is not averse to adventure. For the scholar, the living environment of his loved ones is a constant challenge: Well-dressed, but morally questionable, dark figures cavort there everywhere.

Production notes

Half silk was initially 2170 meters long, later 2112 meters, divided into six acts. The film was censored on November 5, 1925 and premiered on November 26, 1925 in Berlin's Richard Oswald Lichtspiele. In Austria, half silk started running around 13 minutes longer on May 10, 1926.

Heinrich C. Richter designed the film structures.

Reviews

Paimann's film lists summed up: “The game is generally acceptable, the layout and photos are also satisfactory. The subject is often a bit too thick, but again has successful descriptions of the milieu and moments that are very appealing to the public, while the direction leaves something to be desired in terms of tautness after being fairly continuous in the first acts. "

"" Halbseide "attempts to show the urban milieu, which is hidden behind noble appearance, but which is secretly morally reprehensible."
