Hans Fidesser

Hans Fidesser (born March 12, 1899 in Vienna , † January 22, 1982 in Berlin ) was an Austrian opera singer ( baritone / tenor ) and actor .

Life

Fidesser attended the Realgymnasium. Originally a bank clerk, he received singing lessons from E. Mauck, among others, at the Vienna Music Academy. Fidesser made his debut as a baritone at the Stadttheater Plauen in 1922 . From 1924 to 1926 he belonged to the ensemble of the National Theater Mannheim .

Trained by Laurenz Hofer, he switched to tenor. As such, he made his debut at the Elberfelder Theater in 1926 as Radames in Aida . From 1927 to 1931 he was engaged at the Kroll Opera in Berlin. On November 19, 1927, he gave the Florestan in Fidelio in the opening performance .

From 1928 to 1940 he was part of the ensemble of the Städtische Oper Berlin . On August 13, 1928 he was there in the world premiere of the opera Mondnacht by Julius Bittner . He made frequent guest appearances at the Berlin State Opera , the German Opera House and from 1929 to 1931 at the Vienna State Opera .

At the Salzburg Festival in 1931 he appeared as Tamino in the Magic Flute . From 1931 to 1939 he was a member of the German Opera House in Berlin. He made a guest appearance in Amsterdam in 1934 as Belmonte in The Abduction from the Seraglio , and gave other guest performances in Paris and Stockholm .

His stage roles also included Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni , Adolar in Euryanthe , the title role in Lohengrin , Max in Der Freischütz , José in Carmen , Grieux in Manon , Hoffmann in Hoffmann's Stories , Julien in Louise by Gustave Charpentier , Herzog in Rigoletto , Cavaradossi in Tosca , Lukás in The Kiss , Pelléas in Pelléas et Mélisande , Officer in Cardillac and Stranger in The Miracle of Heliane by Erich Wolfgang Korngold .

In spite of his numerous obligations, he appeared in several films and took on leading roles throughout. Fidesser was also a major operetta singer. After the Second World War he limited himself to guest performances at operetta theaters, after which he worked as a singing teacher in Berlin.
