Alfred Strasser (composer)
Alfred Strasser (born May 28, 1895 in Baden (Lower Austria) , Austria-Hungary , † March 9, 1967 in Berlin ) was an Austrian film composer.
Life
The son of the actor Arthur Johann Strasser attended secondary school and received artistic training at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin. Strasser earned his first professional spurs as a pianist and conductor before he began to work as a freelance composer. Immediately after the sound film era began, German film became aware of him, and Alfred Strasser wrote a number of pieces of music, often in collaboration with Jewish colleagues, for popular entertainment productions.
When the National Socialists came to power in 1933, his film work abruptly interrupted, and in the twelve years that followed Strasser was only able to work very rarely as a film composer. With the establishment of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Viennese made a moderate comeback in his traditional profession. In several films, including foreign productions for the German market, Alfred Strasser has also worked as a musical editor or musical director.
