August Rinaldi , born in August Goldschmidt (born September 16, 1883 in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz , Germany ; † December 6, 1962 in Los Angeles , United States ) was a German film architect , painter and inventor .

Live and act

Born in Upper Palatinate, August Goldschmidt attended secondary school and received his artistic training at art academies in Munich and Rome . He then earned his living as a painter and interior designer . In 1912 he made his first contact with film under the stage name Rinaldi. Since the First World War , Rinaldi has designed the film structures into artistically less ambitious productions. Until 1933 he worked with the directors Richard Oswald , William Kahn , Karl Grune , Max Mack and Carl Boese , among others .

As a result of the National Socialists' seizure of power , the Jew Goldschmidt / Rinaldi was largely excluded from further artistic activities in the empire. Nevertheless, the former film architect initially stayed in Germany, most recently in Nuremberg , where he tried to work as a painter again. In December 1939 he managed to leave Rotterdam for the USA. In November 1945, Rinaldi, who was now called August Rinaldy, became a US citizen. Most recently in California , he found no place in the film industry. Instead, Rinaldi acted as an inventor.
