Upper Elbe Marathon

The Upper Elbe Marathon (OEM) is a marathon on a point-to-point route between Königstein in Saxon Switzerland and Dresden , which has been taking place on the last Sunday in April since 1998. He is from the Oberelbe-Marathon e. V. and organized by xperience sport & events . The program also includes a half marathon , a 10 km run, a 10 km walking competition, a company run (3.7 km) and a children's marathon (3.7 km mini-marathon).

The marathon route starts in Königstein and follows the Elberadweg on the left bank of the Elbe via Rathen , where a view of the Bastei , Pötzscha and Obervogelgesang opens up to Pirna , where a loop is made through the old town . The half marathon is also started in Pirna. Both routes continue to follow the Elbe Cycle Path, which now runs through the former world heritage site of Dresden Elbe Valley . Through Kleinzschachwitz with a view of Pillnitz Castle and Laubegast , the Loschwitzer Bridge is reached, where the 10 km run begins. The last part leads across the Elbe meadows with a view of the Elbe castles and passes the synagogue , the Brühlsche Terrasse , the Frauenkirche , the Dresden Residenzschloss and the Semperoper on the terrace bank , before reaching the finish in the Heinz-Steyer-Stadion .

Accompanying persons of the marathon runners can directly participate in the action on a historical paddle steamer .
