The Lost Crowes Freak 'n' Roll ... Into the Fog (2006)

The Lost Crowes is a 2006 posted double album of the Black Crowes . It is a compilation of material from two previously unreleased studio albums , Tall and Band . All the tracks for both sessions were written by brothers Chris and Rich Robinson. The new mix in 2006 was taken over by the British Paul Stacey, who joined the Black Crowes shortly afterwards as a guitarist.

Tall

After the band spent the end of 1993 rehearsing and pre-production, they began recording the album Tall after the Christmas break in January 1994 . A few weeks after the recording session ended, the Robinson brothers realized that the album was missing a climax. So they decided to go back to the studio with the band and record some more pieces. Ultimately, most of the songs were re-recorded and released on the Amorica album. The tapes of the tall sessions disappeared in the archives or circulated as bootlegs in fan circles.

useful information

  • The album title Tall - in English tall / tall (-gewachsen) - refers to the above-average body length of all band members. In a figurative sense, it can also refer to an expanded state of consciousness .

tape

After the tour the album Three Snakes and One Charm , the band recorded in May / June 1997, the album tape on which was not published, but in 2002 ready-mixed non-formal channels into the hands of the fans. After the summer tour in 1997, guitarist Marc Ford was fired, and bassist Johnny Colt also left the band. According to Chris Robinson, this was not the reason for the non-publication. Rather, the record company was not convinced of the material. After the official release as part of The Lost Crowes , the band (which differs slightly from the 2002 version in terms of mix and track selection) received critical acclaim and was one of the Black Crowes' best recordings.

Guest musician

The Nashville Sessions

  • The band - Bootleg circulated among the alternative name The Band Sessions and The Nashville Sessions . The latter referred to the supposed recording location in Tennessee, where, according to the CD booklet, only tracks 6 and 8 and the overdubs of the guest musicians were recorded.
  • The playlists between Bootleg and Lost Crowes version differ in selection and order: The tracks Only a Fool (later appeared on By Your Side and as a single) and Smile (later B-side of Only a Fool ) were omitted, Peace Anyway was added and OK By Me was released under its original title Grinnin (the song originally had different lyrics).
  • Under the title The Band Rehearsals (rehearsals = rehearsals), further session material with further pieces was made public at the end of 2003. In contrast to the already mixed tape bootleg, there is only a mono mix here , and there are no overdub tracks.
