(1992)

$ hake Your Money Maker is the debut album of the Black Crowes , known as the most rock 'n' roll rock 'n' roll band in the world . A classic blues song by Elmore James bears the same name. The album reached number 4 on the Billboard charts . The biggest hit is likely to be the cover version of Otis Reddings Hard to Handle , but the singles Twice as Hard , Jealous Again and, above all, the ballad She Talks to Angles , played with acoustic guitars , also achieved a high level of awareness. The album was awarded five times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in May 1995 .

History of origin

In 1989 the band, which at the time was still called Mr. Crowe's Garden , received a recording contract with American Recordings (then Def American), the label of producer Rick Rubin . Although the band had been around for several years, brothers Chris and Rich Robinson wrote twelve new tracks within six weeks, along with Hard to Handle , a cover version of Georgia- born Otis Redding, and She Talks to Angels , the only older one Piece by the band, pre-produced with George Drakoulias and finally recorded and mixed within a month and a half.

useful information

The Black Crowes only added the Elmore James Blues Shake Your Money Maker to their program from November 1994. In 1999 they released the piece on the album Live At The Greek, recorded with Jimmy Page .

At the beginning of the recording sessions the band was still called Mr. Crowes Garden , but changed their name to The Black Crowes over the years .

14 pieces were recorded during the sessions. You're Wrong was published as a B-side, whereas Charming Mess was not published and was only played live once. Don't Wake Me , released as a bonus track in 1998 , was never performed in front of an audience.

Almost all of the pieces were composed shortly before the sessions, with the exception of the cover version of Hard to Handle and the title She Talks to Angels , which was the only piece in Mr. Crowes Garden's program since 1988.

The band was accompanied in the studio by the southern / blues rock veteran Chuck Leavell on the keyboards (piano / Hammond organ). Leavell had been a member of the Allman Brothers Band since the 1970s , toured with the Rolling Stones and played a. a. on Eric Clapton's Unplugged CD piano.
