Album title

The  band from Atlanta , Georgia - so from the so-called southern states - is often assigned to the genre of Southern Rock because of their origins . In an interview, singer Chris Robinson stated that the title of the album refers to the fact that many people don't understand what it means for the Black Crowes to be southern . It's about a special vibe , a feeling that has nothing to do with Southern Rock in the narrower sense. Robinson took the album title from an old hymnal . The relationship to gospel music given in this way can be found in a broader sense in the music of the Black Crowes, which is often supported by background singers.

Change of band line-up

On this album, with the new lead guitarist Marc Ford and Eddie Hawrysch on the keys, you can hear for the first time the line-up who played the band's sound on the next two studio albums (as well as the Tall and Band sessions released in 2006 as The Lost Crowes ) and has shaped at numerous concerts.

Marc Ford played in 1990 with his band Burning Tree in the opening act of the Crowes and became friends with them. In the following year he came on stage as a guest guitarist for some concerts for individual pieces. When the then Black Crowes guitarist Jeff Cease left the band, it didn't take long to find a successor.

Keyboardist Eddie Hawrysch (also called Ed or Edward Harsch) has played the band's concerts since 1991 and has been a permanent (and most constant) member of the band until he left in 2006. He played a significant part in the songwriting and arrangements on SHAMC.
