By Your Side is the fifth music album by the Black Crowes . The first songwriting and recording sessions took place in November / December 1997 and January 1998. Directed by producer Kevin Shirley ( Aerosmith , Iron Maiden , Silverchair ), the album was recorded in the spring at Avatar Studios in New York. Before that, the band had to cope with drastic changes. Long-time lead guitarist Marc Ford had been forced out of the band, after which bassist Johnny Colt had left the band. While a new bassist was quickly found in the German-born Sven Pipien, an old friend of the Robinsons from Atlanta, the post of lead guitarist at the By Your Side sessions remained vacant. Rich Robinson played on By Your Side (as well as mostly on the successor Lions ) both the rhythm and the solo guitar parts. From 1998 until the "Hiatus", the band's temporary separation in 2001, Audley Freed was the lead guitarist for the numerous concerts.

Single releases

The songs Kickin 'My Heart Around , By Your Side , Only A Fool and Go Faster were used as singles , with different releases on the individual markets. The main B-sides published were It Must Be Over , You Don't Have To Go , Peace Anyway , Grows A Rose , an acoustic version of Horsehead , Smile and When The Night Comes Falling From The Sky . Some of the singles reached the top ten of the American Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Charts.
