Carsten Pump (born September 30, 1976 in Dresden ) is a former German biathlete .

Carsten Pump started his career in the ski department of SG Klotzsche . In 1999 he made his debut in the European Cup in Jablonec nad Nisou and immediately came fifth in the sprint and pursuit and third in the mass start. In 2002 he made his debut in the Biathlon World Cup in a sprint race in Östersund , where he immediately collected his first points as 26th. Nevertheless, in the next few years he mainly started in the European Cup, because he could not prevail against the big competition in the German team, such as Frank Luck , Ricco Groß , Sven Fischer or Michael Greis . Pump has won European Cup races four times, and another two with the relay. In the 2004/05 season he won the All-European Cup and the overall sprint and pursuit rankings. Pump was placed in the top 10 six times in world cup races. The best result so far was a third place in a 2007 sprint in Kontiolahti .

Pump was able to celebrate greater successes at European championships. In 2003 in Forni Avoltri he won gold in the relay and bronze in sprint races with Daniel Graf , Jörn Wollschläger and Marco Morgenstern . Two years later in Novosibirsk gold in the individual, silver in the pursuit (after fourth place in the sprint) and bronze with the relay. In 2006 in Langdorf , Pump again won bronze in the sprint. The 2007 European Championships in Bansko were unsatisfactory in the individual races, but Pump won gold again with the relay, in which Christoph Knie was now running instead of Morgenstern. At the German championships, Pump won bronze in the mass start in the 2002/03 season. In 2005 he was runner-up with the mixed relay.

Pump ended his career in January 2010 at a home race in Altenberg , where he finished 15th in an IBU Cup pursuit . He is a customs sergeant and starts studying after his active career. He was trained by Wilfried Bock and Frank Püschel and started for SSV Altenberg . In addition to winter biathlon pump also operates bike biathlon and long-distance running . At the Oberelbe Marathon in 2006 he set the course record in the half marathon with 1:12:27 .
