Jörn Wollschläger (born March 4, 1978 in Suhl ) is a former German biathlete and biathlon trainer.

Career

Jörn Wollschläger starts for WSV Oberhof 05 . He made his first appearance on the international level at the Junior World Championships in 1999 in Forni Avoltri . In the individual he just missed a medal in fourth, with the relay, to which Alexander Wolf belonged, he won gold. The following year he won gold in the singles and silver in the sprint in Jericho .

In 1999, Wollschläger made his debut in the European Cup in Friedenweiler and was twelfth in the sprint and tenth in the pursuit. In 2001 he first appeared at the European Championships. With the relay, to which Michael Greis and Andreas Stitzl belonged in addition to Wolf , he won gold in Haute-Maurienne , in individual races he did not come close to medals. In the same year he also took part in the military world championships in Jericho and was sixth in the sprint. At the beginning of the 2001/02 season Wollschläger entered the biathlon World Cup for the first time in Östersund . He began with a 25th place in the singles and continuously increased in the two remaining races of the World Cup weekend: in the sprint he was 17, in the pursuit of 13, its still best World Cup placing, which he in the season again in a mass start in Oberhof reached . Wollschläger ran consistently in the World Cup this season and was mostly able to place in the points. At the end of the season he was 39th in the overall World Cup.

In the next few years, however, he was never able to permanently confirm these achievements and only appeared in World Cups sporadically. He therefore often started in the European Cup, where he won six races, including one with the relay. During this time he was able to celebrate the second place in the overall ranking of the European Cup twice. So far, Wollschläger has never managed to qualify for world championships, but he has taken part in European championships several times. In 2003 he won gold again in Forni Avoltri with the relay (with Daniel Graf , Carsten Pump and Marco Morgenstern ), in the pursuit he was fourth after an 18th place in the sprint. In 2004 in Minsk he won gold again with the relay, this time together with Graf, Michael Rösch and Carsten Heymann . In 2005 in Novosibirsk he won the bronze medal with the relay, the 2006 title fights in Langdorf were without any notable success. In 2007 in Bansko , after a fifth place in the pursuit, he again won the relay gold (with Graf, Pump and Christoph Knie ).

In November 2008, Wollschläger announced the end of his career as an active athlete. In the spring of 2011 he became assistant trainer at the Swiss Ski Association at the side of world cup trainer Steffen Hauswald as the successor to the Norwegian Tobias Torgersen . After Hauswald resigned, he took over responsibility for the Swiss men's team in February 2013 together with the former biathlete Christian Stebler .

After the 2019/20 season , Wollschläger resigned as national coach.
