Florian "Flo (w)" Neuschwander (born June 1, 1981 in Neunkirchen (Saar) ) is a German long-distance and ultra runner .

Career

Florian Neuschwander started running at the age of 15, before he played tennis from the age of six .

His first competition, 2 km at the 20th International St. Nicholas Road Run of the VFA Neunkirchen , he ran on December 8, 1996 without training and in tennis shoes in a time of 6: 29.2 minutes.

After dropping out of sports studies, he completed a successful training as a retail salesman and in 2008 switched to LG Stadtwerke München , for which he started until 2010. In the meantime he lived in London for a year and was able to win ten of 18 races in Great Britain . His personal best of 29: 51.88 minutes over 10,000 m in Birmingham in 2009 meant fifth place on the German annual best list.

Neuschwander initially specialized in medium and long-distance runs before switching to ultra- marathons. He completed his first ultra trail and won it in 2011 at the Uewersauer ( Luxembourg ) trail in a time of 03:49:17 h on 52.5 km. In 2012 (3:27:27 h) and 2013 (3:36:07 h) he was also able to win this run.

Florian Neuschwander worked in a run shop in Frankfurt; He counts among his role models Steve Prefontaine . He lives in Inzell with his girlfriend and child .

Neuschwander became known to the general public through his victory at the Wings for Life World Run 2015 in Darmstadt , as a result of which he was able to successfully establish the "Run with the flow" brand . At the IAU 100K World & European Championships 2015 in Winschoten ( NLD ) he was able to achieve ninth place.

On February 3, 2018, Neuschwander took part in the Sean O'Brien 100k , a 100-kilometer trail run in Malibu . He won the race with a time of 8:48:04 h and thus received a golden ticket - the right to participate - for the Western States Endurance Run .

On February 27, 2020, Neuschwander ran a world record over the 50-kilometer route on a treadmill in Thalgau . With a time of 2:57:25 h, it was almost two minutes below the treadmill world record of 2:59:03 h set by the American Mario Mendoza Jr. on January 14, 2020. In addition, Neuschwander secured an entry in the Guinness Book of Records . On April 16, the record was improved by Swiss orienteer Matthias Kyburz to 2:56:35 h. Neuschwander ran a marathon in the Berchtesgaden Alps in June with over 2000 meters in altitude in 2:59:42 hours.
