The Weiltalweg Landscape Marathon was a marathon that was organized from 2003 to 2019 in April by the Hessian Hochtaunus Nature Park , today's Taunus Nature Park .

From 2021, the Weiltalweg landscape marathon is to be continued with a new concept.

The course runs along the Weiltalweg from Schmitten - Arnoldshain through the eastern Taunus to Weilburg an der Lahn. The route mainly leads through forest areas and small towns such as Rod an der Weil and Emmershausen . The highlight is the passage through the old town of Weilmünster .

Although it tends to go downhill, the route is considered challenging due to the numerous inclines (400 meters uphill, 800 meters downhill). The steepest ascent is just after the sixth kilometer (after the local passage of Hunoldstal), when the route partly leads around the horse head (Taunus) . Since the Weiltalweg is also a hiking and cycling path, the route has a stable surface (mostly solid forest paths, partly paved roads). Behind Weilmünster the route leads over the former route of the Weiltalbahn .

A marathon relay was offered from 2008 to 2014. In 2010, a 23-km run was added to the program for the first time when the long winter meant that the number of entries for the marathon was low. Due to the positive response (164 participants, including 111 men and 53 women), a run over - now - 22 km has been offered since 2011. Since 2014, a 12 km run has also been offered, starting in Weilmünster.

In the early years, the Weiltalweg Landscape Marathon recorded almost 1000 participants on the marathon distance at the finish and was thus around 30th place in a Germany-wide comparison based on the number of participants. In Hesse, he first fought with the Darmstadt Marathon for the second largest marathon behind the Frankfurt Marathon , and later with the Kassel Marathon . In 2018, fewer than 300 marathon runners reached the finish for the first time, which means that the Weiltalweg landscape marathon is no longer included in the annual analyzes of the German marathon scene by the internet journal Laufreport.de .
