Melanie Schulz

Melanie Schulz (born August 27, 1979 in Gera ) is a German long-distance and obstacle runner .

At the 1998 Junior World Championships in Athletics , she was eighth over 3000 meters . Her first major success in the adult area was the German runner-up in the 10,000 meter run in 1999. She was third in the 2001 German championships over 5000 meters .

At the U23 European Championships in the same year, Melanie Schulz won the 3,000-meter obstacle course in 10: 03.34 minutes. This time also meant a German record in this new discipline for women. She improved this record three times, most recently on July 6, 2002 in Wattenscheid, when she became the first German female champion in this discipline in 9: 38.31 minutes. This German record was beaten by Antje Möldner in May 2008 . At the European Athletics Championships in Munich in 2002 , the obstacle course for women has not yet been held. Melanie Schulz competed over 5000 meters and was tenth in 15: 46.64 minutes.

In 2002 she won other national championship titles over 10,000 meters and in 2004 over 3000 meters. In 2003 she was second over 10,000 meters and in 2007 third over 3000 meters.

In the following years she switched to road running . In 2009 she became German Half Marathon Champion , second in the Düsseldorf Marathon and eleventh in the Berlin Marathon .

The following year she was ninth in the Berlin half marathon and third in the German half marathon championships.
