Edmundo Warnke

Pedro Edmundo Warnke Bravo (born July 3, 1951 in Viña del Mar ) is a former Chilean athlete who twice took part in the Olympic Games.

Career

Edmundo Warnke won in 1971 at the South American Championships in the 5000-meter run and the 10,000-meter run in front of the Colombian defending champion Víctor Mora . In the same year he finished fourth at the Pan American Games over 5000 meters. At the Olympic Games in 1972 he was eliminated from the 5000 meter run. At the South American Championships in 1974 Warnke won over 5000 meters and won over 10,000 meters silver behind the Colombian Jairo Correa . In 1975 he won the bronze medal on both routes behind Víctor Mora and his compatriot Domingo Tibaduiza . At the 1976 Olympic Games , Warnke was eliminated on both routes in the preliminary run. On New Year's Eve 1976 Warnke won the Corrida Internacional de São Silvestre in São Paulo.

Warnke moved to Germany in the 1970s, where he initially started for ASC Darmstadt and later for LAC Quelle Fürth . From 1976 the German-born Warnke was allowed to compete in German championships, although he still had Chilean citizenship. In 1976, 1977 and 1978 he won the German championship in cross-country running on the long distance, in 1977 he also won the title in the 25-kilometer run. Over this distance, Warnke set two German records in 1976 and 1977, with 1:14:20 h in 1977, improving his record from the previous year by one and a half minutes.

With a height of 1.63 meters, his competition weight was 54 kg.
