Monika Lövenich
Monika Lövenich (* 3. November 1955 in Bedburg as Monika Greschner ) is a former German long-distance runner and triathlete .
career
She was active as a swimmer until 1972 and then switched to running , inspired by Harald Norpoth's appearance at the Olympic Games in Munich. Her greatest successes were initially in cross-country skiing : in 1977 and 1978 she was German champion on the short distance, in 1981 on the long distance. In 1978 she was sixth at the World Cross Country Championships .
In 1979 she came in 23rd place in 2:54:22 h on her debut over the 42.195 km distance at the Avon Marathon in Waldniel . In the following year she improved as third in the German Marathon Championships to 2:48:10 h.
In 1982 she finished seventh in the Osaka Women's Marathon and with her time of 2:38:20 h was the fourth German woman after Christa Vahlensieck , Manuela Angenvoorth and Charlotte Teske to stay below the 2:40 hour mark. In the same year she became German champion in the marathon and the 25 km road run . At the marathon of the European Athletics Championships in Athens she was eleventh.
After winning the Miami Marathon in January 1983 , she won the Paderborn Easter Run on the 10 km distance, defended her title in the German Marathon Championship and came second in the Frankfurt Marathon in 2:31:37 h. At the marathon of the World Athletics Championships 1983 in Helsinki she came in 15th place.
After a long injury and baby break, she returned to the competition in 1987. In the triathlon she became German champion on the short distance, and as the overall winner of the Rhine-Ruhr Marathon , she achieved her third national title over this distance.
Because of persistent back pain, she then ended her competitive sports career. Monika Lövenich launched while running for the SV Youth 07 Bergheim, the ASV Köln , the LG Bonn / Troisdorf, the TV Huchem-stammering and the LG DJK Vettweiß and Triathlon for Triathlon department of "SSK Kerpen".
She has been married since 1980, the couple has two daughters, lives in Nideggen and runs a sports shop in Düren .
