Laura Lindemann (born June 26, 1996 in Berlin ) is a German triathlete . She is four-time German champion over the triathlon sprint distance (2015, 2017, 2018, 2019), junior European champion (2014, 2015), two-time junior world champion (2014, 2015), U23 world champion (2016), and European triathlon champion -Spring distance (2017).

Career

Laura Lindemann trained as a child at Wasserfreunde Spandau 04 and switched to the elite sports school in Potsdam on the recommendation of a club colleague . Since then she has been active in the Potsdam swimming club and her specialty was breaststroke swimming . After she had reached the limit of her ability in this discipline in the opinion of her coach, she switched to triathlon in 2012 on his recommendation.

In the following year, she was the 2013 triathlon vice-European champion in the juniors (18-19 years) and third in the world championships .

In 2020, Lindemann registered for the 5000 meter run at the German Athletics Championships in Braunschweig.

Junior European Triathlon Champion 2014

In June 2014 Laura Lindemann became European triathlon champion . In the same month she won the team sprint with the German team at the European Triathlon Championships in Kitzbühel, Austria (with Lena Meißner , Valentin Wernz and Lasse Lührs ) and was also Junior European Champion.

Junior world champion triathlon 2014

In August in Canada she became the individual junior world champion, in the team relay she took fourth place together with her club colleague Lasse Lührs as well as Anna Schmidt and Lasse Nygaard-Priester.

In June 2015 she won the elite and U23 DM title in Düsseldorf, and in July she defended her junior European champion in Geneva. In July in Hamburg, in front of around 150,000 spectators on the track, she achieved her best position so far at an ITU World Cup as the best German starter in seventh place . At the world championships in mixed relay , Laura Lindemann moved to her teammate Justus Nieschlag in second place , only a 10-second time penalty because the helmet of the second woman in the team, Rebecca Robisch , had opened again, prevented a podium finish. DTU head coach Ralf Ebli sees Laura Lindemann as an exceptional talent, while the 2008 Olympic champion in Beijing, Jan Frodeno , said at the World Cup, “She is a hope for the future”.

Laura Lindemann was a member of the C-team (juniors) of the German Triathlon Union (DTU). She starts in the Triathlon Bundesliga for the Triathlon Potsdam association . In the French championship series Grand Prix de Triathlon , she started in the 2015 season for E. C. Sartrouville . Since 2012 she has been trained by Ron Schmidt at the Olympic base in Potsdam . Laura Lindemann is a student at the “Friedrich Ludwig Jahn” sports school in Potsdam , where she uses the opportunities of the additive Abitur . She hopes that this extension of schooling will provide the necessary training time to prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , and she plans to complete her Abitur in 2017. In 2014 Laura Lindemann vm DOSB was named elite student of the year . In the 2015 Triathlon World Championship racing series , she finished 24th as the fourth-best German. In November 2015 she was named junior athlete of the year .

In the two-year qualification period for a starting place at the 2016 Olympic Summer Games , Laura Lindemann achieved the sixth-best placement of the German athletes on the ITU Olympic qualification list with 65th place, and also missed the sporting qualification criteria agreed by the DTU and DOSB . For team tactical reasons, Lindemann was nevertheless suggested by the DTU as one of the best swimmers in the national team for a start alongside Anne Haug on August 20 in Rio de Janeiro, on July 12, 2016 the DOSB refused to participate, two of the three starting places in the Women for whom the DTU athletes had met the international qualification criteria should remain vacant. On July 19, the DOSB announced that it would nominate Lindemann after a decision by the Frankfurt Regional Court. Two days earlier, Lindemann had finished ninth at the World Championship race in Hamburg and won the bronze medal at the World Championship in Mixed Relay. As the best German in Rio de Janeiro, she finished in 28th place.

U23 world champion triathlon 2016

In September 2016 she became the U23 world champion on the Olympic short distance in Mexico.

In 2017 she started in the B-team of the DTU. In June 2017 she became European champion on the sprint distance in the elite class in Düsseldorf. The then 21-year-old clinched her first podium in a race of the world championship series in Hamburg in July with third place.

In July 2018 she became German champion on the triathlon sprint distance for the third time in Düsseldorf. In the 2018 ITU World Championship racing series, the 22-year-old finished ninth as the best German after the last race (fourth place) in Gold Coast (Australia) on September 15 .
