Life
Anja Scherl was won over to the sport of running in 2007 by her boyfriend and future husband, who also used to run a marathon; Even before that, she occasionally jogged and played volleyball . She originally wanted to start in marathons right away, but her coach at the DJK Weiden initially sent her to the middle distance .
After a year at LAC Quelle Fürth, she moved to PSV Grün-Weiß Kassel in 2012 , with whom she won the first medals in the team at German championships . After winning the South German Championships in 2012 over 5000 meters and a surprising fourth place in the German Championships in 2012 over 10 km, she made her marathon debut at the Hamburg Marathon in 2014 with a time of 2:48:08 h. In 2016, Scherl became known to the general public for her third place in the Hamburg Marathon and a time of 2:27:50 h, which also meant qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . There she achieved 44th place as the best German. In professional circles, Scherl is called the “fastest leisure runner in Germany” because of her full-time job as a software developer . In addition to her work, she herself describes running as a hobby. In 2018 she was nominated by the DLV for the European Athletics Championships 2018 .
