Bertlicher street races

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bertlich street races have been carried out by the sports club SuS Bertlich 1945 eV since 1984. Bertlich is a district of Herten . A distinct feature of the well-coordinated, but practically without audience, event is that it is held three times in February, September and December each year.

The distances are 0.85 km, 5 km, 7.5 km, 10 km, 15 km, 21.1 km ( half marathon ), 30 km, measured with the Jones Counter according to the guidelines of the German Athletics Association (DLV) and 42.195 km ( marathon ). Without exception, the run is on paved stretches, some of which are reserved for agricultural use, but some are free for public transport. The longer runs touch the urban areas of Herten, Gelsenkirchen , Polsum and Marl . The individual runs are staggered.

In 1988 the German championships in road running over 25 km for men and 15 km for women were held here. Herbert Steffny and Christa Vahlensieck were the winners . On March 26, 2006, the German half marathon championships took place on the course of the Bertlich road runs . The Kenyan Viola Bor Chepketing , who started for USC Heidelberg and won by a second over Luminita Zaituc , was subsequently disqualified because she had participated in the cross-country championships in her home country that same season .
