Guido Dold

Guido Dold (born March 22, 1963 in Furtwangen ; † May 12, 2007 there ) was a German marathon and mountain runner .

At the beginning of his sporting career he was active as a cross-country skier at the Brend ski guild and in 1985 came fourth in the German championships over 50 kilometers. Even then he successfully took part in running competitions and won the Black Forest Marathon in 1984 . After he was not nominated for the Nordic World Ski Championships , he finally switched to running.

In 1987 he moved to PTSV Jahn Freiburg, where he was looked after by Rolf Luxemburger and Herbert Steffny , won bronze at the mountain running world championships and won the German marathon championship held as part of the Rhine-Ruhr Marathon .

In 1989 he came 27th in the IAAF World Cup marathon , and in 1990 he took the same place in the London Marathon with his personal best of 2:14:54 h.

After becoming German runner-up in mountain running in 1989 and 1990, he won his first national title in this discipline in 1992. Two more followed in 1993 and 1996. His last great success was a bronze medal at the 1998 World Mountain Running Championships .

Until 1991 he started for the PTSV Jahn Freiburg, from 1992 to 1994 for the LC Breisgau and from 1995 for the LT Furtwangen.

After a serious bicycle accident on the way to work, Guido Dold was dependent on care and a wheelchair and eventually died of complications from pneumonia . He left a wife and three children.
