Valentins Sculme

Valentins Skulme (born April 21, 1922 in Riga , Latvia , † September 12, 1989 ) was a Soviet actor .

Life

Valentīns Skulme was born into a family of artists. He lost his parents at an early age and therefore grew up with his uncle Otto Skulme, who, like his brother Uga, worked as a decorator at the Daile Theater .

After the Second World War, Skulme completed an acting training and then belonged to the Daile Theater himself. His most important engagements included the title roles in the stage version of Dostoyevsky's The Idiot , in Shakespeare's Richard III. and Raimonds Pauls ' Sherlock Holmes - Musical .

In addition, Skulmes made his film debut in Mājup ar uzvaru in 1947 , but was not seen regularly in front of the camera until the mid-1950s. He played his only leading roles in the war films Жаворонок ( Schaworonok , 1964) and Незабываемое ( Nesabywajemoje , 1967). Skulmes embodied members of the military several times, but his other works also include the literary film adaptations The adventures of the balloon pilot JA (1973) based on Jules Verne , Fairy Tales told in the Night (1981) based on Wilhelm Hauff and Knut Hamsuns Victoria (1988). He made a cameo in the historical film Waterloo .

In 1971 Skulme was named Honored Artist of the Latvian SSR .
