Héctor Herrera (athlete)

Héctor Herrera ( Héctor Herrera Ortiz; born May 23, 1959 in Vertientes ) is a former Cuban middle-distance runner who was also used in the 4-by-400-meter relay because of his sprint strength .

At the Pan American Games in Caracas in 1983 , he won bronze with the Cuban 4-by-400-meter relay.

In 1991 he was sixth at the Pan American Games in Havana over 800 m and won the Cuban 4 x 400 meter relay. At the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo , he came eighth with the Cuban relay.

The following year he was over 800 m Ibero-American champion. He had his greatest sporting success in the same season as part of the Cuban 4 x 400 meter relay at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona. Together with Lázaro Martínez , Norberto Téllez and Roberto Hernández , he won the silver medal behind the US and ahead of the British team.

In 1993 he finished sixth at the World Championships in Stuttgart with the Cuban 4 x 400 meter relay and won over 800 m silver at the Central America and Caribbean Games .

In 1989, 1990 and 1992 he was Cuban champion over 800 m.
