Rachid El Basir Arabic رشيد البصير; (Born October 4, 1968 ) is a former Moroccan athlete whose special route was the 1,500 meter run .
At the World Athletics Championships in 1991 he reached the semi-finals.
He celebrated his greatest success the following year when he unexpectedly won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Barcelona , when he had to admit defeat only to local Fermín Cacho (3: 40.12 min) in 3: 40.62 minutes . The race was delayed in the first few laps, so that it came to a pure sprint final.
He also reached the finals at the next two World Championships: in 1993 in Stuttgart he was seventh, in 1995 he was fourth in Gothenburg .
At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, he was eliminated from the preliminary stages.
Rachid El Basir is 1.80 m tall and weighed 61 kg at competition times.
