The Turkestan steppe candle ( Eremurus turkestanicus ) is a type of plant from the genus steppe candle ( Eremurus ) in the subfamily of the Affodill family (Asphodeloideae).

features

The Turkestan steppe candle is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 70 to 100 centimeters. It forms rhizomes . The stem is bare. The leaves are gray-green, glabrous and 20 to 45 millimeters wide.

The inflorescence is loose, narrowly cylindrical and 30 to 60 centimeters long. The flower stalks lie against the stem. The outer and inner tepals are linear-lanceolate, 9 to 12 millimeters long and both almost equally wide. The lower ones are less than twice as long as the perigone and thickened under the flower. The capsule fruits have a diameter of 7 to 8 millimeters.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

Occurrence

The Turkestan steppe candle occurs in West Tian Shan and West Pamir Alai in semi-desert bushes and on stony juniper meadows at altitudes of 1100 to 1800 meters.

The Turkestan steppe candle is rarely used as an ornamental plant. It has been in culture since 1881 at the latest.
