description

Steppe candles are perennial, herbaceous plants that usually reach heights of 80 to 200 centimeters and usually grow like clumps. The rhizomes of the steppe candles are finger-like and quite sensitive. The lanceolate leaves stand together in tufts at the base of the plant.

The inflorescences are very high in some species, the inflorescence shafts are without leaves and the many flowers are dense, racemose together. The hermaphrodite, stalked flowers are threefold.

They form capsule fruits . The seeds are triangular, sometimes with wings on the edges. Similar to the related asphodelia, cattle avoid eremurus so that they have a chance of survival even in heavily grazed areas.
