The Kaufmann steppe candle ( Eremurus kaufmannii ) is a type of plant from the genus steppe candles ( Eremurus ) in the subfamily of the Affodil family (Asphodeloideae).

features

The Kaufmann steppe candle is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 70 to 100 (rarely 30 to 150) centimeters. It forms rhizomes . The stem is hairy below. The leaves are hairy and 15 to 25 (rarely up to 35) millimeters wide.

The inflorescence is 10 to 40 centimeters long, cylindrical and very dense. The bracts are narrow triangular, shaggy ciliate and not drawn out like a thread. The flower stalks are about 10 millimeters long, at fruit time they reach 20 millimeters, are thickened and almost pressed against the stem. The tepals are 15 to 22 millimeters long, white and yellow at the base.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

Occurrence

The Kaufmann steppe candle occurs in east and north-east Afghanistan and in the Pamir - Alai on mountain steppes, in open juniper bushes and on fine earth - and gravel slopes at altitudes of 1,600 to 3,700 meters.
