Attila Horváth (athlete)

Attila Horváth (born July 28, 1967 in Kőszeg ) is a former Hungarian discus thrower .

The greatest success of his career he celebrated at the World Athletics Championships in 1991 in Tokyo. There he won the bronze medal behind Lars Riedel and Erik de Bruin with a width of 65.32 m . Horváth placed himself in front of athletes like Jürgen Schult and Wolfgang Schmidt , who had been well ahead of him in his eighth place at the European Athletics Championships in Split a year earlier.

In the following years Horváth came close to the medal ranks at major international events. At the Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992 and at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1994 , he was each fifth, at the 1995 World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg, he finished fourth.

After that he was no longer able to build on his previous achievements. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, he reached tenth place, at the World Athletics Championships in Athens in 1997 and in Seville in 1999 , he failed in qualifying.

Attila Horváth was a total of nine times Hungarian champion in discus throw (1987, 1990-1997). He is 1.94 m tall and weighed 117 kg at competition times.
