Werner Reiterer (athlete)

Werner Josef Reiterer (born January 27, 1968 in Hohenems ) is a former Australian discus thrower of Austrian origin.

Athletic career

In 1986 he won silver at the Junior World Championships in Athens and bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh . At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, he was eliminated in qualification.

In 1990 he won silver in the discus throw at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland and was fourth in the shot put . A preliminary round at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in 1991 was followed by a tenth place at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona.

In 1994 he won the Commonwealth Games in Victoria and was fourth in the Athletics World Cup in . At the 1995 World Cup in Gothenburg, he did not get past the first round.

Eight times he was Australian champion in discus throwing (1988-1995) and once in the shot put (1991).

Confession of doping

In 2000, in his autobiography, Positive, he confessed that he had been using doping substances for five years .
