Rodolfo Gómez ( Rodolfo Gómez Orozco ; born October 30, 1950 ) is a retired Mexican long-distance runner .

Life

In 1975 he was Central America and Caribbean champion over 10,000 m and in 1977 over 5000 m . At the Pan American Games in 1975 he won bronze over 5000 m and silver over 10,000 m and in 1979 bronze over 5000 m and gold over 10,000 m. In 1978 he won the Central America and Caribbean Games in both the 5000 m and the 10,000 m.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, he started over 5000 m, 10,000 m and in the marathon . In the track competitions he was eliminated in the preliminary run, in the marathon he finished 19th.

In 1980 he was sixth in the marathon at the Olympic Games in Moscow , while he did not come across the prelim over 10,000 m. That same year he finished second in the New York City Marathon .

The following year he won the Tokyo International Men's Marathon and was seventh in New York. In 1982 he won the Golden Athens Marathon, the Rotterdam Marathon , the Oregon Track Club Marathon and came second again in New York. In 1983 he was third in Tokyo and Rotterdam and was eliminated from the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki over 10,000 m in the preliminary run.

In the 1984 Olympic Games marathon in Los Angeles, he did not finish. His last major achievement was winning the 1987 Pittsburgh Marathon .

Rodolfo Gómez is a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso . Since the end of his sporting career, he has been a successful coach and coached Martín Pitayo , Andrés Espinosa , Germán Silva and Adriana Fernández , among others .
