Adriana Fernández

Adriana Fernández ( Adriana Fernández Miranda ; born April 4, 1971 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican long-distance runner .

Life

Her first successes were on the track . In 1993 she was Central America / Caribbean runner-up over 1500 m and 3000 m and won silver at the Central American and Caribbean Games over 3000 m. In 1995 she won gold over 5000 m at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata and won silver over 1500 m and gold over 5000 m at the Central American and Caribbean Championships. At the World Athletics Championships in Gothenburg , she was eliminated over 5000 m in the preliminary run.

In 1996 she won the Houston Marathon and qualified for the marathon of the Olympic Games in Atlanta , in which she came in 51st place. After another qualifying round over 5000 m at the 1997 World Cup in Athens, she finished seventh in the 1998 London Marathon with the national record of 2:29:46 h, won silver over 5000 m and gold over 10,000 at the Central America and Caribbean Games m and finished second in the New York City Marathon in 2:26:33.

The following year, she improved her national record to 2:24:06 in the London Marathon and won gold again over 5000 m at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg . Although she failed again in the preliminary round at the World Cup in Seville over this distance, she managed to win the New York City Marathon.

In 2000 she was fourth in the London Marathon and finished 16th in the marathon of the Olympic Games in Sydney . In 2001 she won the Maratón de la Comarca Lagunera and was ninth in London, and in 2002 she won the Beach to Beacon 10K , the Virginia Beach Half Marathon and came second in the Berlin Marathon in 2:24:11. 2003 followed a victory in the Kyoto Half Marathon, a twelfth place in the London Marathon, double gold over 5000 and 10,000 m at the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo and an eighth place in the New York City Marathon.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens she started over 10,000 m and came in 23rd.

In 2005 she returned to the 42.195 km distance, finished third in the Comarca Lagunera and won the Las Vegas Marathon in December . In 2008 she finished second in the Mexico City Marathon and in 2009 she won the Guadalajara Marathon.

With her second victory in the Comarca Lagunera, she became the Mexican marathon champion in 2010.
