Rainer A. Müller

Rainer Albert Müller (born May 3, 1944 in Bleche ; † May 22, 2004 in Munich ) was a German historian .

Life

Rainer A. Müller graduated from the state high school in Bergneustadt in 1963. From 1963 to 1971 he studied in Münster, Innsbruck and Munich. In 1968/69 he passed the state examination for German and history at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . With Laetitia Boehm and Johannes Spörl he received his doctorate with a socio-cultural study on the history of the Bavarian State University in Ingolstadt 1472–1648. In 1982 he completed his habilitation on the Bavarian high school system. In 1983 he became a private lecturer. From 1988 onwards, Müller taught as a professor of early modern history at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt . There he was dean in 1999/2001.

With Laetitia Boehm he developed the dictionary of "Universities and Colleges". With Rüdiger vom Bruch he edited an encyclopedia of historians. He was editor of the eleven-volume series German History in Sources and Representation in the Reclam publishing house . In 2007, Hans-Christof Kraus recognized him as one of the “best experts on recent German university and educational history”. In 1995 Müller founded the Society for the History of University and Science together with Rainer Christoph Schwinges and Rüdiger vom Bruch . He was co-editor of the historical yearbook . Müller was a member of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt .

He was a member of the Unitas Association and co-editor of the essays on student and higher education of the community for German student history .
