Christoph Herle (born November 19, 1955 in Königstein / Taunus ) is a former German long-distance runner .

Career

From 1983 to 1986 he was the DLV champion in the 10,000 meter run four times in a row . At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he started over this distance and over 5000 meters . He finished fifth over 10,000 meters and gave up in the semifinals over 5000 meters.

At the World Athletics Championships in 1983 he was eighth over 10,000 meters. He had less success at European championships: in 1978 in Prague and 1982 in Athens he came 14th and 13th place over 5000 meters, respectively, in 1986 in Stuttgart over 10,000 meters in 15th place.

In cross-country he was a total of five times DLV champion (1979-1981, 1985, 1988). From 1978 to 1985 he took part in cross-country championships seven times , with a seventh place in 1985 as the best placement.

He was also successful in the hall. He set a German indoor record in the 3000 meter run twice : in 1979 at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Vienna, where he won silver with 7: 45.44 minutes, and in 1985 in Dortmund with his second DLV title after 1979 Discipline with 7: 42.97 min.

In his marathon debut in 1983, he finished fifth in the Chicago Marathon in 2:12:14 h. In his second and last start over this distance in 1985, he set a DLV record as fourth in the London Marathon with 2:09:23 h, with which he is currently (as of August 2009) third in the Eternal German Best List behind Jörg Peter and Michael Heilmann (who at that time were listed as athletes in the GDR in the DVfL record lists ).

Christoph Herle started for the OSC Höchst until 1976 , 1977 for the USC Munich, from 1978 to 1984 for the LAC Quelle Fürth and then for the VfL Waldkraiburg. He studied architecture and art history at the Technical University of Munich and founded an architectural office with a friend in 1983.
