Michael Heilmann (born October 26, 1961 in Kleinmachnow ) is a former German long-distance runner who had his greatest successes in the marathon .

He started for the first time in 1981 over the 42.195 km and finished sixth in the marathon of Karl-Marx-Stadt in 2:18:19 h. At the 1983 European Cup marathon in Laredo , he was fifth in 2:12:55 h and won gold with the GDR team . As ninth in the Fukuoka Marathon of the same year, he achieved his first of ten times under 2:12 hours with 2:11:59 h and set the current German U23 record, as well as the current Berlin marathon record.

The following year he was sixth in the Tokyo International Men's Marathon in 2:11:32 h. Since the GDR boycotted the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, a replacement marathon was held in East Berlin that summer , with Jörg Peter first in 2:09:14 and Heilmann second in 2:09:30 Waldemar Cierpinski's German record (2:09:55 h) broke. At the end of the season he was third in Fukuoka in 2:10:59 h.

In 1985 Heilmann came fourth in the IAAF World Cup marathon in Hiroshima and set a German record at 2:09:03 h, which since then has only been beaten once by Jörg Peter in 1988. In autumn he won the European Cup marathon in Rome in 2:11:28 h. In 1986 he started after a fifth place in Tokyo at the marathon of the European Athletics Championships in Stuttgart , but did not reach the goal.

At the World Cup marathon in 1987 he only came in 16th place because of cramps. With his victory at the Leipzig Marathon , he became the DVfL marathon champion . In 1988 he was tenth in the European Cup marathon in Huy , won the Košice marathon and was seventh in Fukuoka.

In 1990 he was fourth in the 25 km from Berlin , third in the Hamburg marathon and ninth in the Berlin marathon . His last major achievement was a runner-up in the 1992 Houston Marathon .

He celebrated further successes in road races with two victories each at the East Berlin Peace Run over 20 km in 1983 and 1985 and at Marseille - Cassis in 1988 and 1989.

The trained toolmaker started for TSC Berlin , BSG Motor Teltow , Racing Club Berlin and OSC Berlin . He ended his sporting career in 1996 and has settled as a physiotherapist in his hometown of Kleinmachnow.
