Nick Rose

Nick Rose (actually Nicholas Henry Rose; born December 30, 1951 in Bristol ) is a former British long-distance runner .

At the Athletics World Cup in 1977 he was fourth over 5000 m . In 1978 he was starting for England over the same distance twelfth at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton . At the European Athletics Championships in Prague he came in seventh place.

The following year he was fifth in the 3000 m at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Vienna in 1979 . At the World Cross Country Championships in Limerick , he finished 21st and won with the English team. On October 14th in Dayton he set a world record in the half marathon with 1:02:36 h .

In 1980 he won bronze in the individual competition at the World Cross Country Championship in Paris and defended the team title with the English team. At the Olympic Games in Moscow he reached the semi-finals over 5000 m . In the autumn he won the premiere of the Bowling Green Classic (further victories followed in 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1986).

In 1981 he was third in the Philadelphia Half Marathon and in 1982 both second in the Jacksonville River Run and the Crescent City Classic . A silver medal over 5000 m at the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane was followed by a victory at the Tulsa Run . In 1983 he won the Jacksonville River Run and was seventh over 10,000 m at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki .

In 1984 he set the current European record in the 10 km road race as third at the Crescent City Classic with 27:34 minutes . At the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, he was twelfth over 10,000 m .

In 1985 he finished third in the Philadelphia Half Marathon. A third place at the Great Scottish Run in 1988 was followed by a victory in this race the following year. In 1991 he won the Bristol Half Marathon . At the age of 42, he finished 46th in the 1994 London Marathon .

In 1980 he became English cross-country champion as well as over 10,000 m and in 1977 US cross-country champion. Starting for Western Kentucky University , he became NCAA cross-country champion in 1974 .
