Jewish cemetery (Buttenwiesen)
The Jewish cemetery in Buttenwiesen , a community in the Swabian district of Dillingen an der Donau , is located in the middle of the village next to the communal cemetery.
history
The Jewish community of Buttenwiesen built its own cemetery in 1632 or 1633. Before that, she buried her dead in the Burgau cemetery, which no longer exists . Gravestones ( mazewot ) from the 17th and 18th centuries are no longer available, as many grave monuments were made of wood. On the three grave fields in the southern part of the cemetery there are tombstones from the first half of the 19th century and in the eastern part stones from the second half of the 19th century. In the north-western part are the graves from the 20th century.
Tahara house
The Tahara house was demolished after 1945 and a garage was built in its place (Marktplatz 8), the external dimensions of which roughly correspond to the former Tahara house.
time of the nationalsocialism
The cemetery was damaged during the November pogroms in 1938 and many tombstones were sold to a master stonemason afterwards .
Current condition
After 1945 the cemetery was restored and the sold tombstones, if they still existed, were brought back.
In 1919/20 the Jewish community of Buttenwiesen arranged for the eastern part of the cemetery to be filled. In 1950, the municipality of Buttenwiesen built a municipal cemetery in this previously unused part.
