The listed Jewish cemetery in Hainsfarth in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries is located east of the village above the road to Steinhart . Before the end of the village, turn left.
history
The Jewish community of Hainsfarth first buried their dead in the Jewish cemetery in Wallerstein, four hours away . A separate cemetery was laid out in 1849/50 , and Chaia Neumann, who died on October 27, 1850, was the first to be buried. A total of 291 people were buried; the last burial took place in 1939.
There are still 272 tombstones ( mazewot ) in the 33.10 ares large cemetery .
time of the nationalsocialism
During the National Socialist era , the cemetery was partially destroyed in the November pogrom in 1938 or later. The windows of the Tahara House were broken and all furnishings were stolen.
Current condition
In 1946/47 the cemetery was partially restored and the fallen or overturned tombstones were put up again. After 1953 the coach house was restored and the Tahara house was converted into a residential area. In October 1955, the two buildings were sold to private individuals who were obliged to maintain the cemetery by means of a purchase contract.
