Iraq participated in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing with two athletes, a woman and a man, in part.
The registration deadlines had already expired for five other athletes in archery, weightlifting, rowing and judo.
Contrary to previous announcements, Iraq is allowed to take part in the games. By decree of May 20, 2008, the Iraqi government ordered the dissolution of the National Olympic Committee . This interference with the autonomy of the national committee led to the IOC's suspension of the Iraqi NOK in early June. On July 29th it was decided that the athletes could take part.
