In 2008 Bulgaria took partin the Summer Olympics forthe 18th time. 73 athletes competed in 16 different sports.

Before the Summer Olympics, eleven Bulgarian weightlifters were convicted of doping. After the positive A-sample, the entire Bulgarian weightlifting team was withdrawn from the games.

Daniel Pavlov qualified for the Beijing Olympics during the 2007 World Championships.

Boxing

Men Boris Georgiev up to 64 kg Kubrat Pulew over 92 kg

Boris Georgiev won the gold medal at the 2006 European Championships and the bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.

Kubrat Pulew won the bronze medal at the 2005 World Championships and the 2006 European Championships.

The men's volleyball team qualified for the Summer Olympics by winning the bronze medal during the 2007 World Cup.

The team plays in a preliminary round group with the teams from the USA, China, Venezuela, Italy and Japan.
