Iwo Janakiev

Iwo Dimitrov Jana Kiev ( Bulgarian Иво Димитров Янакиев , English and Ivo Yanakiev written * 12. October 1975 in Bourgas ) is a former Bulgarian rowers, the 2004 Olympic gold in the third one was.

Janakiev was fifth in 1992 and sixth in 1993 in the Junior World Championships in one. From 1994 he entered the rowing world championships in the adult class. In 1999 he reached the A-final for the first time and finished fifth, which also qualified him for the 2000 Olympic Games . There he also took fifth place.

In 2001 he took second place at the World Cup in Seville behind the Slovenian Iztok Čop and thus achieved a podium place for the first time in his career; at the 2001 World Rowing Championships he finished sixth. In 2002 he finished tenth at the World Championships, in 2003 he was twelfth. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens he again reached the A-final and won the bronze medal behind the Norwegian Olaf Tufte and the Estonian Jüri Jaanson .

In 2005 Iwo Janakiew switched to the double scull and took fourth place in this boat class at the rowing world championships together with his brother Martin Janakiew , followed by fifth place in 2006 . At the end of his career, Iwo reached a tenth place with his brother at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.

Dimitar Janakiew , the father of Iwo and Martin, was at the Olympic Games from 1972 to 1980 and was sixth with the Bulgarian eighth in 1980.
