Bulgaria took part in the IV Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936 with a delegation of 7 athletes. This was the first time Bulgarian athletes took part in the Winter Olympics. The athletes participated in two sports and could not win a medal.

The youngest Bulgarian starter was 19-year-old Boyan Dimitrov and the oldest was 31-year-old Ivan Angelakov . While Dimitrov started in alpine skiing , Angelakow started cross-country skiing.

Bulgaria took part in the first ever alpine skiing competitions with three starters and all starters were disqualified in the course of the competition.

Bulgaria took part in cross-country skiing with four starters, all of whom were used in the race over the 18 kilometers. There all participants could only take the back places and in the relay the Bulgaria took 15th place because Turkey did not finish the race, the last place.
