Spain took part in the IV Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in 1936 with a delegation of 6 athletes. The two starters took part in the alpine combination and the four starters in the cross-country skiing over the 18 kilometers. It was Spain's first participation in the Winter Olympics. The Spanish team remained without a medal.

The youngest Spanish participant was 21 year old Tomás Velasco Palomo and the oldest participant was 28 year old Enrique Millán Alarcón . Both Velasco and Millán competed in cross-country skiing . With an average age of 23.83 years, Spain started with a younger team. Cross-country skier Jesús Suárez Díaz Valgrande carried the Spanish flag at the opening ceremony .
