The Republic of China participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics under the name Chinese Taipei . A total of 79 athletes (43 men and 36 women) competed in 15 different sports. With four won bronze medals the Chinese Taipei finished at the end of 79th place in the original medal of 2008. This changed no later than 2016, when the weightlifter Wei-Ling Chen after the disqualification of doped Turkish woman Sibel Özkan advancing to 2nd place and thus the silver medal won . In the same year, the original Olympic champion Chen Xiexia was also disqualified, after which Chen Wei-Ling was awarded the gold medal.
