Chang Ming-huang ( Chinese  張銘 煌 , Pinyin Zhāng Mínghuáng; born August 7, 1982 in Taichung ) is a Taiwanese shot putter and discus thrower .

Athletic career

Chang Ming-huang gained his first international experience at the 1999 World Youth Championships in Bydgoszcz , where he won the discus throw with 64.14 m. He then finished fifth at the Junior Asian Championships in Singapore with the discus and eleventh place in the shot put. In 2000 he took part in the discus throw at the Junior World Championships in Santiago de Chile and was eliminated there with 48.07 m in qualification. The following year he won the silver medal at the East Asian Games in Osaka with 55.88 m and the bronze medal in the shot put at the Junior Asian Championships in Bandar Seri Begawan with 17.20 m. He was also fourth with the discus. At the Summer Universiade in Beijing , he was eliminated in both disciplines in the qualifying round. In 2002 he was at the Asian Championships in Colombo with 15.70 m eleventh in the shot put and finished sixth with the discus with 52.94 m, as well as at the Asian Indoor Championships in Tehran 2004 in the shot put.

This was followed by a ninth place in the discus throw at the Asian Championships in Incheon, South Korea, and fifth and sixth at the East Asian Games in Macau . In 2006 he took part in the Asian Games in Doha for the first time and won the bronze medal in the shot put behind the Saudi Arabian Sultan Abdulmajeed Alhabashi and Khalid Habash al-Suwaidi from Qatar with 19.45 m . In 2007 he won the silver medal behind the Indian Navpreet Singh at the Asian Championships in Amman with 19.66 m . He then won the bronze medal at the Student World Games in Bangkok with 19.36 m. He qualified for the World Championships in Osaka , where he was eliminated with 18.53 m in qualification. At the end of the season he was fourth at the Indoor Asian Games in Macau with 17.93 m.

In 2008 he took part in the World Indoor Championships in Valencia and the Olympic Games in Beijing , but failed to reach the finals on both occasions. In 2009 he finished eighth at the Summer Universiade in Belgrade with 18.42 m and won the silver medal at both the Asian Championships in Guangzhou and the Indoor Asian Games in Hanoi . He then won silver and bronze at the East Asian Games in Hong Kong . In 2010 he again took part in the Asian Games in Guangzhou and won bronze again with 19.48 m. In 2011 he was at the Asian Championships in Kobe with a new championship record of 20.14 m and qualified for the World Championships in Daegu , where he was eliminated with 19.60 m in qualification, as well as at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul the following year . He also qualified again for the Olympic Games in London and finished twelfth in the final with 19.99 m .

In 2013 he won the silver medal for the third time at the Asian Championships in Pune with 19.61 m and also won bronze at the East Asian Games in Tianjin with 19.19 m. In 2014 he also won silver at the Asian Games in Incheon with 19.97 m behind Alhabashi. In 2015 he won another silver medal with 19.56 m at the Asian Championships in Wuhan behind the Indian Inderjeet Singh . In 2018 he took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta for the fourth time and finished fifth with 18.98 m.

In 2000, 2002 and 2005, as well as 2012 and 2014, Chang was the Taiwanese champion in discus throwing and in 2005, 2012 and 2014 in the shot put.
