2008 Summer Olympics / Softball

At the XXIX. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , a softball competition was held. Eight teams took part in the women's tournament. Each country was allowed to field a maximum of one team of 15 players each, resulting in a total of 120 participating athletes in this competition. The International Olympic Committee has decided to remove softball from the 2012 Summer Olympics program . So this sport was played for the last time at the Olympic Games.

qualification

In addition to the People's Republic of China , the host, the four best-placed teams at the 2006 World Cup and the winners of the three continental championships in America, Asia / Oceania and Europe / Africa had qualified for the Olympic competition. The following teams made it to the qualification:

World Championship

From August 27, 2006 to September 5, 2006 the world championship with 16 teams took place in the Chinese capital Beijing . Of these, four qualified directly for the competition in Beijing. All games were played in the “Fengtai” stadium on two different fields.

From June 9, 2007 to June 16, 2007, the European and African qualification tournament with eleven teams took place in the northern Italian city of Trieste .
