At the XXVI. At the 1996 Olympic Games in the US metropolis of Atlanta , a softball competition was held for the first time .
The tournament was for women and took place July 21-30. A total of eight nations took part in this tournament. With the Olympic baseball tournament there was a corresponding competition for men.
The venue was the Golden Park in Columbus , which was built especially for the Olympic Games.
